Lakshmi Tirumalla is a focused and collaborative engineer driven by the power of technology to streamline complex, real-world processes. Growing up in a close-knit, all-girls family in Hyderabad, India, Lakshmi was raised with the strong expectation of independence and purpose. While her initial direction was shaped by her parents’ desire for her success, her passion was ignited by a high school math teacher who made the subject exciting, inspiring her to choose Computer Science as her career path.
Lakshmi completed her Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at the CMR Institute of Technology (CMRIT) in Hyderabad before relocating to the United States to pursue her Master’s degree in Computer Science at Stevens Institute of Technology University. Her academic focus centered on data and coding languages, establishing a foundation that would quickly translate into high-impact professional roles.
Before joining Smart Systems Technology (SST), Lakshmi accumulated extensive experience in high-stakes financial and legal environments. She worked as an analyst and software developer for the Royal Bank of Scotland in Connecticut, where she honed her engineering skills. Her most critical roles included her work on a legal compliance team, where she developed complex reports for legal and marketing teams using Perl and Shell scripting, and her time as a software developer for a credit card services company, designing and developing monitoring scripts for advanced risk solutions.
At SST, Lakshmi is instrumental in designing and implementing the automated workflows that power the Current platform. Her technical focus is bridging the gap between front-end visibility and back-end data architecture: she prefers Python for robust data processing and automation on the back-end, and a JavaScript framework for the front-end user experience. She is directly responsible for achieving the data automation and synchronization necessary to reduce organizational friction for diverse clients, including sales organizations, law firms, and Child Welfare Services.
Lakshmi’s philosophy on teamwork is core to her success: she believes that collaboration is absolutely essential for progress. “It is not just about one person—it takes involvement from many to reach the correct outcomes,” she states, seeing every breakdown as an opportunity for a breakthrough. She values the variety of challenges at SST and is committed to pouring her energy into finding the winning designs that benefit clients, people, and partners.
When she steps away from the keyboard, Lakshmi is focused on her family, hoping to raise her children to be as independent and goal-oriented as her parents raised her. She enjoys crafting puppets and small toys for her kids and finds tranquility in gardening and visiting botanical parks.
